Former Kentucky Uranium Site Chosen for Proposed $100 Billion AI Data-Center Complex

The U.S. Department of Energy said it selected Brookfield Asset Management to develop and operate a data center at the government-owned Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant in Kentucky. Official DOE materials and Associated Press reporting describe a proposed, privately funded complex framed around more than $100 billion in investment, with NextEra Energy planned to build and own power components including natural-gas generation and battery storage supporting a planned AI data-center campus. Construction completion is expected in 2031 according to DOE; the project remains a development plan subject to agreements and regulatory approvals.
