Microsoft expands Azure AI infrastructure with AMD and Mistral deals

Two July announcements add upcoming AMD-powered Azure virtual machines and a multibillion-dollar Microsoft-Mistral agreement to expand Europe-based AI compute capacity.

Microsoft announced on July 20 that AMD's Helios AI platform and next-generation EPYC processors will power three upcoming Azure virtual-machine offerings for data processing, electronic design automation, and AI inference. On July 21, Microsoft and Mistral announced a multibillion-dollar agreement under which Microsoft will use part of Mistral's expanded Europe-based GPU capacity and bring additional Mistral models across Microsoft products.
